Girl Scout Grade Levels

The six levels of Girl Scouts are based on grade so that the activities can change and grow, as the girls' needs and interests change.

Girl Scout Daisies - Grades K-1
The adventure of Girl Scouting starts here! Girl Scout Daisies might take field trips, begin to learn about nature and science, explore the arts and get to know their communities. Girl Scout Daisies learn how to work together while they play together, develop values and earn awards while they learn the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

Sample Activities for Girl Scout Daisies

  • Arts and crafts projects like finger-painting murals and making colorful barrettes and paper-bag puppets
  • Trips to pick pumpkins and apples
  • Camping and hiking with their family
  • Planning a picnic and making snacks
  • Planting a community garden
  • Earning patches for activities like reading fun books or helping their community

Girl Scout Brownies - Grades 2-3
Girl Scout Brownies begin to understand the concept and appreciate the value of leadership. They may work together in groups, earn Try-Its, and can make various decisions about troop activities. Friendship, fun, and age-appropriate activities begin at the Brownie Girl Scout meeting and move out to the community and wider world.

Sample Activities for Girl Scout Brownies

  • Visiting a zoo to feed—and learn how a veterinarian cares for—baby animals
  • Marching in a community parade
  • Earning Girl Scout Brownie Try-Its: creatating a T-shirt, learning a magic trick, exploring life on the prairie
  • Planning an overnight to celebrate their birthdays
  • Deciding how many cookies to sell to earn money for trips
  • Camping and making s'mores over a campfire

Girl Scout Juniors - Grades 4-5
Girl Scout Juniors can earn badges as they create a circle of fun and friendship and then reach out as agents of change in their larger community. They gain self-confidence as they explore the world in partnership with their troop/group leaders, learning to take charge of their own personal leadership journey.

Sample Activities for Girl Scout Juniors

  • Learning outdoor skills and independence at a Girl Scout resident camp
  • Perfecting soccer moves with a professional women's soccer player
  • Selling cookies to earn money for a trip
  • Organize a scavenger hunt for neighborhood litter
  • Writing to a Girl Scout who lives in another country
  • Earning the Girl Scout Bronze Award

Girl Scout Cadettes - Grades 6-8
Girl Scout Cadettes are learning that Girl Scouting can offer them the world with many exciting opportunities to explore personal interests, develop a healthy way of life, work on leadership skills, and provide service to the community. They are becoming more comfortable taking the lead and following their dreams.

Sample Activities for Girl Scout Cadettes

  • Taking more of a leadership role in planning programs, events and trips
  • Developing healthy self-esteem by participating in programs that address important issues in their lives, like body image, healthy eating, friends and dating, and more
  • Investing play money in a stock-market game and beating the experts
  • Working on various Interest Project Awards or service projects based on individual girl interests, learning new skills while making a difference
  • Earning the Girl Scout Silver Award

Girl Scout Seniors
Girl Scout Seniors participate in Girl Scouting in many ways that fit into their busy lives, mixing and matching activities and resources to suit their needs while giving back to their communities. They connect with each other and build self-esteem and confidence in their skills as they work on a range of projects and gain life experiences that take them through their high school years and prepare them for college life and beyond.

Sample Activities for Girl Scout Seniors

  • Acting as a mentor to younger Girl Scouts
  • Spending a summer working at Girl Scout camp
  • Exploring career options with a mentor and job shadowing
  • Taking special training to become CPR certified, a Program Aide and more
  • Finishing up earning the Girl Scout Silver Award, or begin working on earning the Girl Scout Gold Award

Girl Scout Ambassadors
Girl Scout Ambassadors may love their growing independence but as they juggle life decisions and pressures, they still need a trusted adult to listen, give assurance and coach. Girl Scout Ambassadors understand themselves and their values and use their skills to explore the world, while teaming with others to make the world a better place.

Sample Activities for Girl Scout Ambassadors

  • Taking the main leadership role in planning programs, events and trips for other Girl Scouts and the community
  • Getting to the root of an issue in the community, creating a plan to make a positive difference, building a network of community partners, and advocating for the changes that need to be made
  • Traveling to one of the Girl Scout World Centers or participating in a destinations trip
  • Earning the Girl Scout Gold Award
