Advocacy
In addition to supporting ongoing advocacy efforts at the national level, GSNWGL is working with Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Badgerland Council, Girl Scouts of Manitou Council, and Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast to help build awareness at the local and state levels.
Recently, staff members from each of these councils traveled to Madison to begin organizing Troop 1912 — an honorary troop made up of women in state government. An investiture ceremony was held January 24, 2012. Troop 1912 will help bring a greater awareness to Girl Scouts advocacy efforts such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Body Image, and Financial Literacy.
In October 2011, ten girls represented GSNWGL in Madison, WI to advocate for STEM opportunities. The girls received training in advocacy, toured the capitol building and were paired up with their state representatives to share their STEM experiences. Click here to read more about their trip.
