Girl Scout Cookies?
“When you buy a box of Girl Scout Cookies, you know you're getting a delicious, high-quality product, but did you also know that you are supporting the premier leadership development program for girls?” asks Ann Saris, VP of Brand & Marketing for Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes.
As an integral component of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, the Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program helps girls learn to set goals, communicate, manage money, work as a team, plan a strategy to achieve goals, and make and stick to a budget. Many of today’s successful women have credited their business skills to their participation in the Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program, making it the premier business and economic literacy training program for girls in the United States.
Saris adds, “Like all Girl Scout programs, cookie sale program activities are girl-driven. Girls make their own decisions and run their sale with the help of adult volunteers. It's one of the only youth fund raising activities where the participants have a say in how the proceeds are used.” The girls decide how to spend their profits, whether through troop activities, trips, even philanthropy and community service projects.
Girl Scout Cookies will be sold door to door in north central Wisconsin and upper Michigan from Friday, January 22 through Sunday, February 7. Beginning in March, Girl Scout troops will be selling cookies at booths set up in locations such as grocery and department stores and shopping centers.
