Girl Scouts can change the world and you can be part of it!
About Girl Scouts Forever Green Community Action Project
We are thrilled that GSNWGL has been selected as one of only 36 pilot councils for this national initiative. Long-time advocates for the environment, Girl Scouts envisions being at the forefront of environmental sustainability, leading schools and communities in using resources wisely. Girl Scouts Forever Green will be a vehicle to help girls develop their leadership skills while positively impacting the environment by working to improve air quality, energy use, water use, waste management, and the use of green space. The impact of this nationwide project will grow as we near the celebration of 100 years of Girl Scouting in the United States in 2012!
Who Can Get Involved
All Girl Scout troops, Juliettes (individual Girl Scouts), alumnae, friends and families can get involved today and be Forever Green! Participants will connect with schools, churches, and other community organizations to complete their community action project (CAP). Also, a Forever Green CAP can be used towards earning the Girl Scout Bronze, Silver or Gold Award!
How to Get Involved
- Troops/groups/Juliettes complete and submit the GSNWGL Girl Scouts Forever Green application
- Troops/groups/Juliettes then choose a CAP with the help of the Project Guide. The Project Guide will be the most valuable tool to assist troops in choosing a CAP. It contains general information on each focus area, a list of sample CAPs, metrics for each CAP and a vast number of online resources. It also includes pertinent information on utilizing Journeys and other earned awards (Try-Its, Badges, etc.)
- Once the CAP is selected, the troop/group/Juliette must register their CAP with GSUSA through the website www.girlscouts.org/forevergreen
- Remember to keep the CAP girl-led, from planning all the way through implementation!
