    Council-Wide Service Projects

Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes will sponsor Council-Wide Service Projects periodically throughout the year. These projects will be listed here
as they are scheduled, so check back often. Click here to find out more about planning a troop, group or Service Area service project.

Each year on February 22, girls participate in activities, games and service projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries. The theme changes each year, and has included topics/calls to action such as poverty, hunger, disease prevention and healthy living. Click here for more information about World Thinking Day.

March 12 - Girl Scout Birthday & Girl Scout Week: Food Drive

In honor of Girl Scout Birthday, March 12, and Girl Scout Week, give a gift that feeds. Food Banks, pantries and programs like “Meals on Wheels” are continually dependent on donations to support their program participants. These organizations across the Council are always in need of shelf-stable, non-perishable food items to distribute in the community. Food Banks collect and distribute food to agency food pantries, and non-profit organizations who work with the needy in our communities. Food Banks will be able to assist you in finding a local pantry to support, contact your local social service agency to find the nearest program to support, or click here to search for a food bank by Zip code.

Service projects on Public Lands Day:

  • Can educate Americans about critical environmental and natural resources issues and the need for shared stewardship of these valued, irreplaceable lands
  • Are partnerships between the public sector and the local community based upon mutual interests in the enhancement and restoration of America's public lands
  • Improve public lands for outdoor recreation, with volunteers assisting land managers in hands-on work. You can find a project in your local area to be a part of by going to http://www.publiclandsday.org/involved/index.htm or develop your own service project where you see a need.

October 31 - Founder's Day: Warm Hearts, Warm Hands

Warm Hearts, Warm Hands is a winter clothing drive. Participants will approach local social service organizations that may provide ideas for greatest needs in the community. Members then plan a method or methods to collect clothing within a period of about two months. Once clothing is collected, it is delivered to organizations at a pre-arranged date and time.
