About Summer Thing
Summer Thing is the traditional name for Girl Scout Council camp programs in Michigan's UP. It even has its own song! During Summer Thing girls can participate in a variety of activities, which may include archery, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, games, crafts, nature hikes and floating meals on the lake.

About Camp Nesbit
Nestled in the Ottawa National Forest of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Camp Nesbit (CNE) offers a scenic, serene setting complete with archery and shooting ranges, a ball field, abundant wildlife, and a private crystal clear lake.

Adventure Girls

It’s time for you to try a real adventure! Be prepared to explore your world and take it to the limit. Take a hike through Ottawa National Forest, cook over an open fire, and discover what’s rattling around in the bog! When you’re done venturing, come back to camp for swimming, boating and fun evening activities with your friends.

Art Explosion!

Join us for a week of arts n’ crafts, theater, painting and much more. Art Explosion emphasizes a variety of arts, in addition to all of the outdoor activities you love to do at camp.

Camp Quest
Grades:
1-3

Try a little bit of everything during Camp Quest! Spend your days having fun in the sun and learning all of the camp traditions. From swimming and crafts, to hiking and games, you’ll discover all the fun camp has to offer!

Counselor in Training I – NES

Do you love your camp counselors so much that you want to be one? The first step is to complete Counselor in Training I. While in training, you’ll experience how camp is run from different perspectives: staff, campers, and volunteers. Study different grade levels, learn how to lead…and when to follow. What kind of a camp counselor will you be?

Counselor in Training II – NES

This program is for girls who have completed Counselor in Training I. Girls need to be ready to plan, organize and run day programs for younger troops. You’ll also get a taste of outdoor training and be certified in first aid and CPR.

Day Sessions – NES
Grades: 1-6
Dates: July 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21 (choose any day)
Cost: $45/day
Not ready for a whole week away from home? Start with just a day! Come by yourself, with a friend, or your entire troop for a day-long sampler of everything camp has to offer. Learn our traditions, cook outdoors, swim, play games and create art. Once you’re there, you won’t want to leave!

The High Ropes Course is an optional activity during camp sessions, and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis as it fills up FAST! There is an extra activity fee and some restrictions apply.

High Ropes Course
Dates: July 11–17, July 18-24

Ropes course activities build group leadership, teamwork and self-esteem. Individuals discover their abilities, then transfer what they’ve learned into their everyday lives. Girls must be at least 55 inches tall or have prior ropes course experience.

Mermaids and Polliwogs

Spend your summer days out at the lake! Swim, play water games and learn about the fun creatures that live in and around our beautiful northern waters!

Mish Mash
Grades: 4-6
Dates: July 11-17, July 18-24 closed
Cost: $230
Sample it all! Canoeing, crafts, outdoor cooking, camping, swimming, floating meals and art projects are just a few of the great camp traditions.

Peak Adventure-Pictured Rocks
Grades: 5-12
Dates: July 11–24
Cost: $465
This is the ultimate adventure! Spend five to seven days backpacking at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Each day will be spent hiking 4-8 miles through one of the most beautiful national parks in the country. Witness beautiful sunsets and then fall asleep each night to the waves of Lake Superior! Finish out your journey canoeing, kayaking, swimming and just hanging out.

Twilight
Grades: 7-12
Dates: July 18–24
Cost: $230
Twilight fans unite for a fun week of nighttime activities - discovering the galaxies, and delving into the world of bats and things that go bump in the night.

Water Otters
Grades: 4-6
Dates: July 11–17, July 18–24
Cost: $230
Spend most of your days at water’s edge with a fun-filled week of canoeing, kayaking, eating floating meals and otter snacks and, of course, swimming. Look at water creatures up close and find out how they can live where they do!

YOYO (You’re On Your Own)
Grades: 7-10
Dates: July 11–17, July 18–24
Cost: $230
This week, it is all up to you and your camp friends! Choose from favorite activities such as swimming, cooking out, archery, and hiking. You’ll even plan your own adventure with a daytrip out of camp - you decide where to go and what to see!
