Who is Cut-Out Chloe?
Cut-Out Chloe is a portable version of our very own Courageous Chloe. She can fit into a duffel bag, suitcase, backpack or even an envelope, so she can join your family on all your summer adventures! Please keep a journal documenting the places and activities in which you and Chloe are involved. Chloe and the journal can also be mailed to other people who can treat her as a visiting guest and add to her journal, then return them both after a period of time.

Have fun plotting Chloe’s travels on maps and creating a journal. Who knows - Chloe might even return with a photo or postcard from her travels! Especially creative hosts may send Chloe back with souvenirs and other reminders of the visit. You can even email Chloe to far-off friends and family, asking them to document their activities together!

Submit your picture with Chloe and a journal entry for a chance to be featured on our website. Email your picture and story to brand@gsnwgl.org by October 1, 2009.

The Adventures of Cut-Out Chloe

Hello, it's me, Courageous Chloe!
I am so excited to tell you about a special trip that I got to go on the week of May 3. It was great! I traveled with a family to the Dominican Republic (Punta Cana). The weather was so warm and there were palm trees all over the place! We stayed at a hotel that was right on the ocean. There was a huge swimming pool that I loved to play in.  I liked to lay on the lounge chairs after a swim and enjoy the warmth from the sunshine. The ocean waves were neat to watch and the sand was very white and soft.  The people who live in the Dominican are very artistic and love to share their talents.  Some of them paint pictures or make flower arrangements, while others like to sing and dance. Many of them are very talented at making pottery and jewelry.  This is how a lot of the people who live there make money to live. I bought a beautiful green beaded necklace while I was there, which was hand made by one of the people who live in Punta Cana. The people who live in the Dominican are very friendly. They have to work very, very hard and do not make a lot of money for what they do.  It is very different than in the United States.  We have so much compared to them. Most Dominican families live in a house that only has one room.  In the room, there is a sleeping area with cots or hammocks, a cooking area, and an area just to sit and relax with family or eat a meal. The bathroom is usually in a separate building outside of the main house. They also have a sitting area outside with a few outside chairs for them to sit on and enjoy the weather, because it is usually pretty warm there.  They do not have snow, but they do have rain. A lot of the people who live in the Dominican Republic go to school and learn many different languages. This way, they can work at hotels, which is a very good job there. They talk to all the different people of the world who come to stay in their hotels by the ocean. One of the ladies that worked at the hotel I stayed in knew Spanish, English, German and French! I thought that was amazing, she was so smart!  It made me want to learn more so I could communicate with people from all over the world as well. Good bye for now, I hope you love the pictures I sent!

Love, Chloe
