Coordinated by a full-time staff member, Adventures on the Go will make it easy for volunteers to bring outdoor experiences to Girl Scouts in their troop or service area. Staff will be fully certified to offer all activities (e.g., lifeguarding, archery, hatchet throwing).
Adventures on the Go will bring adventures and outdoor experiences to our Girl Scouts near and far. The ability to experience an outdoor adventure will be at their fingertips.
Girls can take part in water activities like canoeing, kayaking, or paddleboarding; or try their hand at archery, hiking, and rock climbing. Girl Scouts can experience a low ropes course, a drum circle, stargazing, and outdoor cooking, right in their community. Adventure will be just around the corner.
Adventures on the Go will be an incredible platform for experimenting and experiencing the outdoors. It will help Girl Scouts try something new, challenge themselves, and learn new skills. They’ll find their grit and be inspired to get outside. Maybe a passion they never knew existed is waiting for them with Adventures on the Go!
How Will It Work?
Who Can Take Part?
Adventures on the Go will be available to all current members, emphasizing reaching Girl Scouts in underserved areas without easy access to camp and outdoor experiences. Adventures on the Go will work as a service to volunteers and service area groups, allowing the council to bring outdoor experiences and programming to their communities.
When Will It Start?
We anticipate Adventures on the Go will launch before Fall 2023. Adventures on the Go will travel throughout the council year-round, weather permitting. Every day is a day for adventure!
Through Adventures on the Go, Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes can reach girls throughout our council who may not have access to outdoor experiences or equipment.
Exposure to play in nature will drive girls’ curiosity and various outdoor programming opportunities.
We hope to remove the cost barrier for girls and families wanting to try kayaking, rock climbing, or experiences that may otherwise be cost-prohibitive.
Our goal is also to increase inclusion in the outdoors. We want to bring this new experience to girls who may have previously experienced trauma associated with the outdoors. Adventures on the Go can be a new introduction to outdoor adventures in a safe environment close to home.
We are committed to increasing accessibility to outdoor experiences and looking at what we offer through a lens of all potential limitations (e.g., cognitive, physical, emotional).
