“World Thinking Day” was originally named “Thinking Day” in 1926, at the 4th World Conference in the United States, to honor Founder of the Boy Scout Movement, Lord Baden-Powell, and World Chief Guide, Olave Baden-Powell, who’s birthdays both fell on February 22nd. In 1932, at the 7th World Conference in Poland, delegates decided that in honor of birthday gifts, donations and fundraisers could take their place to show appreciation on this day. It was not until 1999 at the 30th World Conference that “Thinking Day” became “World Thinking Day”. Every year a central theme is chosen for World Thinking Day—2024’s theme is “Our World, Our Thriving Future: The Environment and Global Poverty”.
There are many ways for you and your Girl Scouts to celebrate and give back during this month—
World Thinking Day is merely one day, so this is a major opportunity to talk to your kiddos about how important this day is to globally connect and fundraising for over 10 million Girl Scouts and their Girl Guides stretched across 152 countries.
