You have the power to improve your community through action

Ready to help your community and earn one of the highest awards in Girl Scouting? Cadettes can team up with a small group of fellow Girl Scouts or work on their own. To earn the Silver Award, you will research an issue you care about, make a plan to address it, and then take action to improve your community.

You can become a Silver Award Girl Scout if you:

  • Are in sixth, seventh, or eighth grade
  • Are a registered Girl Scout Cadette
  • Have completed the Bronze Award or a Cadette Leadership Award

How to earn the Girl Scout Silver Award

  • Let our council know you want to earn it.

  • Find an issue you care about.

  • Build your Girl Scout Silver Award team or decide to go solo.

  • Explore your community and think of how that issue affects your community.

  • Choose a Silver Award project that can lead to lasting change.

  • Develop your project.

  • Make a plan and put it into motion.

  • Reflect, share your story, and celebrate.

Our Council Expectations

  1. At least one adult is expected to complete Silver Award Course 1 and Course 2 in gsLearn and use the matching Volunteer Toolkit meeting plans in troop meetings to introduce the Silver Award BEFORE your Girl Scouts submit their Silver Award proposals. Request access to Silver Award Training.
  2. Submit your project proposal (required) to info@gsnwgl.org at least one month before your proposed start date.
  3. Council staff will review each proposal to ensure it meets the standards of the Silver Award and offer feedback to Silver Award project teams. Don’t start your project before receiving council approval.
  4. If securing additional funds is part of your Silver Award project, review our money-earning guidelines and submit the Money-Earning Application to Council BEFORE hosting your money-earning event.
  5. Submit your final report to info@gsnwgl.org l after your project completion (but no later than September 30 after you complete 8th grade). To be included in the council’s annual recognitions, submit your final report by March 1.

Questions? Reach out to info@gsnwgl.org or 888.747.6945 or visit our council's event calendar to attend a Highest Awards information session.
