Vision for Support on the Go

Adventures on the Go™ (AOTG) is a mobile unit providing accessibility to outdoor experiences with the goal of getting more youth on the water, in the trees, and under the stars. A talented, highly qualified program manager leads archery, paddleboarding, snowshoeing, orienteering, and more, and our Girl Scouts love everything about it! What's more? Not only is AOTG new for our council, it's also the only mobile outdoor program experience for Girl Scouts in the United States! AOTG came to life based on a logic model designed to help our Girl Scouts, giving them more space to pursue youth-focused, youth-led experiences, such as a strong sense of self, positive values, challenge seeking, healthy relationships, and community problem-solving.
Our AOTG Program Manager, Bethany McAnally, is a certified lifeguard and lifeguard instructor. She also has first aid, wilderness, and wilderness first responder certifications. She grew up as a Girl Scout and worked at our sleepaway camp, Camp Birch Trails, since she was 14. Bethany started as a camp assistant, then moved to counselor, trip leader, and finally, trip director! She earned her master's in criminology law and served as a combat engineer officer in the United States Marine Corps. Bethany is passionate about outdoor adventure and education and is excited to bring new opportunities to Girl Scouts.
Exposure to play in nature will drive curiosity about various outdoor programming opportunities. Adventures on the Go serves as a fantastic stepping stone for introducing Girl Scouts to the camp experience. By offering engaging outdoor activities, AOTG allows Girl Scouts to sample the excitement and fun they’ll find at camp in a familiar and comfortable environment close to home. This hands-on approach helps build confidence and enthusiasm, making the transition to an actual camp experience seamless and inviting.
We hope to remove the cost barrier for girls and families wanting to try kayaking, rock climbing, or experiences that may otherwise be cost-prohibitive.
Our goal is also to increase inclusion in the outdoors. We want to bring this new experience to girls who may have previously experienced trauma associated with the outdoors. Adventures on the Go can be a new introduction to outdoor adventures in a safe environment close to home.
We are committed to increasing accessibility to outdoor experiences and looking at what we offer through a lens of all potential limitations (e.g., cognitive, physical, emotional).
